A writer for the local paper had an article on eating for $50 a week per person. She had read about this on TIME.com, and commented on how impossible it would be to feed yourself on that paltry amount. That means a family of four would have to spend more than on $800.00 a month for groceries.
That sounds like a ton of money to me. What are those people buying? You can eat for a lot less than that. You can cook up a pot of red beans or lima beans in the crockpot, season 'em up good, they're delicious. Make a skillet of Spanish rice to go with it. Make a pan of biscuits or cornbread, and a coleslaw with carrot curls etc. A couple of times a week meatless meals of beans and rice are good for you. And you don't have to have dessert with every meal.
But to eat well on less than $800.00 a month, you have to stay away from take out and restaurants. Anyway, that's my opinion.
