When I was in middle school, one of my teachers decided to put on a play. It was a musical. It was fun and funny. Most of the kids tried out for the lead roles. I didn't try out for any of the roles. I was part of the chorus by detault. We got to wear different costumes for our group songs. I never really saw the entire show because we were backstage when we practiced and when we put on the show. I did read the script, of course so I knew what the show about. It was set in the later part of the 1800s in a frontier town. The heroine was the new woman in town. All of the men were crazy about her. She was extremely nice. The women were jealous of her but were won over by the end of the play.
I enjoyed being in this production. We had little movements and steps we did during our songs. We also made some costumes... well, one costume to wear in one production number in a class about domestic skills. It was a simple outfit, but they decided it was too pretty, because we were supposed to be small town hicks. We got to wear them anyway. In another production, they told us to find a prom outfit that one of our older relatives had from their youth. I had a young aunt who had such a dress. I liked wearing that. That was the closing number of the show. Since the heroine got her own true love, our old boy friends returned to us, but they weren't in the closing number.
I remember the music teacher was my teacher's assistannt. At times, he tended to take over. My teacher was really irritated about that. I didn't realize that until once I saw him pound on the wall with a fierce expression on his face when the music teacher took over directing one of the scenes.
I now think that we should have had a celebration the next day, but we didn't. We went on with regular school work. The play was on Thursday evening, and so the next day, being Friday, would have been a perfect day for a little party. But this was never discussed. I guess the teacher was all worn out from the stress of putting on this production. The price of a ticket was about a dollar or two. The money went to our Student Council.

I loved the picture.
