Due to law suites over money and royalties, copyrights, he decided not to play any Creedence Clearwater Revival songs so he would not have to pay others for what he wrote and owned.
Then in 1987 he was invited to attend a benefit, a benefit for Vietnam Veterans. It was to be a live broadcast, and a fund raiser for Vietnam Veterans issues.
How do I remember that? Well being a Vietnam Vet, I remember watching it on TV live. John Fogerty had written a number of songs on his own, and the Center Field album was his biggest hit as a solo artist.
I remember John coming onto the stage and started playing the chords to one of his new songs, then stop. He then went into a string of CCR songs, and at the end said "Boy, that feels good!" Why did he play them then? It was a benefit and he was not paid for his preformance, so he did not have to share anything!
I found this clip on YouTube the other day, and it brought back so many memories. Hope you enjoy.
