As many of you know, and some of you may not know, I spend lots of time on Google Earth. Not only finding spots in the states, but places I have been in Vietnam as well.
The larger old military bases in Vietnam are easy, they were so big and built up, Roads, runways, etc. that they were hard to miss.
My latest find, was a artillery fire base that I was on, in April 1970. This base was not in Vietnam, but in Cambodia. It was during the invasion to clean out the weapons and supplies the north were bringing down to the south.
This base was about 150 yards long, and about 75 yards wide, kind of a egg shape. It was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Sounded like finding it would be a challenge to me.
After about a hour of looking, I have found it. I took a Google Earth snapshot of the area, and placed a yellow "X" where the base was. Then there are some yellow lines that you can look at in comparison to the original picture I took from the air, back in 1970. This is the place.
First there will be two pictures from 1970, from the air and one on the base, then the google earth snapshot.

I think it is amazing you actually found it. Isn't Google Earth fascinating?
Finding a spot in the middle of nowhere means more to me than a lot of people, but, I guess you had to be there for it to mean something. For everyone else there is little meaning.
Too cool!!! At first I was looking at the first picture wondering if I was blind for not seeing a yellow X.
