Fort Hood Texas. The largest military base in the United States.

I sat and watched the news like most everyone else, and just couldn't believe what was happening.

Fort Hood Texas, a base I came sooooo close to going to in 1969. After graduating from Basic Training, I had orders to go to Fort Hood to go through Combat Medic training. Back during the Vietnam "conflict" as they like to call it, but those of us who were there know it was a war. Anytime someone is shooting live rounds at you, it is a war, a combat medic had a life expectancy of something like three months. Luckily my class was over filled, and my orders were changed.

Fort Hood is now home to the 1st Cavalry Division, among others. It saddens me that these brave men and women who joined the military not only put their life at risk in battle, but now to have this happen on one of our own bases here in the United States.

Its a sad day indeed.
