I think we can all agree that the Southern Cal Trojans are NOT Numero Uno this year. Last night the lowly Oregon State Beavers--not even rated and 25 point underdogs--handed the mighty (make that EX-mighty) Trojans a "quizz" that they couldn't solve! The result! The second upset in two of three years by the Beavers over the Trojans.
Behind the running of 5'6" 180 pounder "Quizz kid", Freshman Jaqwhizz Rodgers, who scampered for 186 yards and two touchdowns, the Beavers showed no respect as they flipped water all over Southern Cal's plans to appear in another BCS title game.
Though the final score was 27-21, the game wasn't nearly that close. Southern Cal never led, trailing 27-14 with just three minutes to play.
The Beavers held the Trojans to three and out on the opening series, then took the ensuing punt to drive 68 yards to score. Leading 21-0 at the half while Southern Cal had mustered only three first downs, the Beavers held on to win, scoring a late fourth quarter touchdown following Greg Lauboun's interception.
Rodgers had help from his brother, Sophomore James, another mighty midget at 5'7', 182, who pulled down six catches, scoring State's other two touchdowns. The offensive line manhandled Southern Cal all night, shoving the big guys back to give Rodgers just the space he needed to slip past the Trojans and average five yards a carry.
The defense, not to be outdone, recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass. Both led to touchdowns for the Beavers.
It couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of guys!
It does, however, beg the question...Who is the best team in the land?
