Playing Games

I went over to exercise tonight, forgetting that Monday is bingo night.  So, I had to walk around the bingo tables to get to the exercise room.  Naturally, every head turned to follow me from the door all the way into the exercise room.  What is it about people that their eyes just seem to bore all the way through you when you have to walk past them.  That has always really bothered me.

When I first moved here, several people tried to get me to play bingo.  But I politely declined.  In my entire life, I can never remember winning a single bingo game.  I have finally accepted my fate.  The bingo gods just do not like me.

The Moose Lodge in Yukon has bingo on Thursday nights.  In the summer when Kenna was home from college, she and Holly would go.  One night they finally convinced me to come too.

Now, the Moose Lodge plays a fast game with balls popping out of a hopper while players use a blotter to mark numbers.  My very first mistake was going; my second mistake was letting the girls talk me into playing three cards at a time. The caller was rattling those numbers off so fast I could barely keep up with one card, much less three!  By the time I got my first two cards marked, he was calling another number.  I'm still over on the third card trying to remember the previous number.

Though I had paid for all three cards. I finally just gave up, playing one.  As I recall, that was my last foray into the world of bingo.

We used to go bowling also.  When we first started, Holly had never bowled. Now, I am an average bowler at best; however, this particular night I was doing exceptionally well.  Holly was really having trouble, so I was giving her some pointers.  After she had just thrown a gutter ball, I said to her:

"Holly, your approach to the lane is all wrong.  Now, watch how I do it."

I must confess that Holly is kind of like her mother.  She doesn't always take criticism very well.

As I was getting ready to throw the ball, she turned to Kenna and said,

"She thinks she's so good!"

I made my usual approach, pulled my arm back and threw the ball.  There was just one slight problem.  My middle finger stuck  and didn't release.  I went skidding halfway down the lane still attached to the ball.

I didn't think Holly and Kenna were ever going to stop laughing. Other people are running over to see if I am hurt. Not my two! They think it's the most hilarious thing they have seen in a long while!

"So, that's how you do it, Mom!"  Holly managed to remark, still laughing so hard tears were running down her face.web statistics

I've never tried bingo - saving that for someday in the future, if ever.
