Burglars Break into Holly & Bevan's Home

We may never get Holly and Bevan to leave home again!

While they were in Oklahoma, their house was burglarized, their power failed downstairs, which shut down their pump in the basement, causing it to fill with four feet of water; and this morning they had to call the fire department when smoke began pouring from one of the outlets in the living room.

As Holly and Bevan were returning home, they received a call from their dog sitter telling them that someone had broken into their home, evidently yesterday morning.

When the sitter arrived to feed and let the dogs out, they were hiding in their cage and wouldn't come out. He noticed that the bedroom where the cages are had been ransacked.

Mia and Bonkers are shih tsus. Neither is bigger than a minute; but Mia will bark and have a fit if someone even steps on the front porch. Thankfully, neither appeared to be injured, but they were definitely traumatized by something the burglars did.

However, the bedroom appeared to be the only room the intruders got to before the sitter arrived. Half Holly and Bevan's closet was a mess; the other half hadn't been touched. Their drawers to their dresser were all dumped. Amazingly the only thing missing was some silver coins. They left credit cards, checkbooks, and everything else untouched.

The police believe they had just begun going through the house when the sitter arrived. Evidently, the culprits then escaped through the sliding glass door in the bedroom when they heard him entering. They had kicked in the door in the garage that goes into the back yard to gain entrance.

Holly just called me back to tell me that the fire department had checked the outlet; had determined it was a dimmer switch, which it should not have been. It had overheated, causing the switch to melt. They did not think it was a major short in their wiring.site stats

How sad. A burglar makes one feel so violated.

Bless their hearts!! Well I hope and pray they can get that water pumped out of there soon and get the electric back on and fix the heater. Goodness. I am thankful that they didn't get away with more and that no one was harmed.

Sorry for them!
BTW: I had a dimmer switch malfunction in Long Beach and had to have it removed. It nearly caused a fire. Dimmers are notoriously dangerous.
When I go away for even an overnight, I leave the lights on in one room and also a radio and sometime I leave the TV on. I have two timers on lamps that work well, too. If I'm going away for more than overnight I have the neighbors pick up my mail and newspapers. Burglars watch for those signs. I never take my car to the airport either. If the car is gone, they know the resident is gone, too.
