Summer vacation has officially started! I know we're not supposed to admit it, but one of the enjoyable parts of being a teacher is summer vacation!
We went and bought patio furniture this weekend. It was a little premature because the patio needs to be pressure washed before we can put the furniture on the patio! I didn't realize just how dirty the job was going to be either. I worked on it Sunday and got 10 rows of bricks done. We worked again this afternoon and finished 26 rows...not quite halfway! The clean part looks amazing now. I'll post pictures when we finish.
Lily loved the pressure washer. For a dog who only weighs 5 lbs. she has no fear. Well, at least not of loud machines. She was a little afraid of the bath that came after two days of playing in the muddy water from the washer job! She's just so cute when she's all clean though!
The cleaning led to an interesting discussion. When J worked in Louisiana, he worked 12 hour shifts. When he came home he went to bed and then started over again. There really wasn't time to do anything other than work and sleep. Now he works about 9 hours a day. That gives him a little time to do things when he gets home. He believes though that when he gets home the day is done. He cleaned a row and a half of bricks today and said he was done. I was like, ummm, no. So we ended up getting more done. He's having to do a lot of adjusting, but join the crowd.
M had a dr.'s appointment today. Her diabetes dr. wanted a baseline eye exam done just so we knew where she was right now. So we headed to the opthomalogist. (I love that word-so many letters!) She had her eyes dilated. That was an interesting experience for her. The good news is that all was perfectly normal with her eyes. We don't need another appointment for a year and a half. Most of the time when we go to Texas Children's she likes to ride the MetroRail. I asked her if she wanted to drive in today because of the heat. She didn't but we probably should have. She had a hard time with the sun on the way back to our rail stop.
There's the exciting beginning of our summer vacation. The really exciting part is that now I get to start emptying out the mountain of boxes that are stored in our garage. I know J is ready for that to be done. Then the lawn mower and all of the other yard stuff can be moved off the patio and into the garage where they belong.
