Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

When magazine writer John Kelso (John Cusack) travels to Savannah, Ga., to cover a chichi party thrown by urbane antiques dealer Jim Williams (Kevin Spacey), he is pulled into his subject's intriguing murder trial and introduced to a throng of colorful locals. Set against the beguiling backdrop of Southern high society, this retelling of John Berendt's novel by director Clint Eastwood also stars Jude Law as Williams's lover, Billy Hanson.

1997 2 hours 35 minutes Rated R

4.5 stars (Dale-4, David-5) Twisted story, acting is great, characters are fun. Movie is a tad slow so you have to focus to stay with it.

I really like that movie, mostly because of Rue Paul, but also because of the subtle story bits.

Have you read The City of Falling Angels, set in the city of Venice, Italy by that same author? It's also non-fiction, but you'd never believe it because it's just so gossipy and entertaining. The trigger for it is a fire in one of the opera houses, so there's lots of theater people.
