King Corn

In Aaron Woolf's

thought-provoking documentary, friends Ian Cheney

and Curt Ellis

move back to America's Corn Belt to plant an acre of the nation's most-grown and most-subsidized grain and follow their crop into the U.S. food supply. What they learn about genetically modified seeds, powerful herbicides and the realities of modern farming calls into question government subsidies, the fast-food lifestyle and the quality of what we eat.

Rated NR 1 hour 30 minutes 2007

4 stars. We both knew about most of this information due to reading Michael Pollan's books. Fascinating look into our society and it's food production.

I enjoyed this documentary. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to the corn prices with the high price of OPEC oil, yes, the farmers can sell their crops for more for methanol fuel, but the gasoline and diesel for their farm equipment is also higher, plus higher seed cost and fertilizer costs, so it's not as huge a net profit as some would think.

Would not need to have as many fertilizer and seed costs if Monsanto would stop the Terminator gene in the seeds.

It's amazing how much corn we ingest without being aware how many different products it is used for.

I live in the heart of the corn belt. Farmers around here are rolling in money, what with high corn prices and subsidies. But you should hear them whine. But you never know what this year will bring.

they should stop whining cause the rest of America is going to get sick of all this craziness.

I watched this a few weeks back. It was pretty shocking to see how much the government is really subsidizing corn that is really not needed. The idea of putting corn in stuff for no reason, considering the health troubles involved, is frightening.

very true. One more reason to cook your own food and to avoid the boxed stuff!!
