The Help

In 1960s Jackson, Miss., aspiring writer Eugenia Phelan crosses taboo racial lines by conversing with Aibileen Clark about her life as a housekeeper, and their ensuing friendship upsets the fragile dynamic between the haves and the have-nots. When other long-silent black servants begin opening up to Eugenia, the disapproving conservative Southern town soon gets swept up in the turbulence of changing times.

I read the book twice - got done, started it again. Can't wait to see the movie. When it first came out I heard something on NPR about it, with black women and white women calling in to give their impressions. One of the black ladies said: "When I came out of the theater, all the white women were crying and all the black women were smiling and laughing. I thought: did we see the same movie?"

I so want to see this. I am waiting until I have a chance to read the book first. One of the actresses is from Rhode Island.

I thought it was so over hyped and not so true (I lived in Memphis in the 70s) but I did love the idea of the PIE and the acting was first rate!!!
