For years now I've made a point of including raw, unsalted nuts in my diet. To avoid weight gain, I limit the amount to 30 grams a day (about an ounce).
I use skinned peanuts, cashews, pecans, English walnuts, and whole almonds. I grind up a measured proportion of the various nuts into a fairly fine particle size (using a Osterizer). I include sesame seeds, pepitas, sunflower kernels, and ground flax seed in the mixture for my breakfast fruit bowl which also includes about an ounce of raw oatmeal, and some non-fat milk to make a very nice uncooked and tasty meal.
Being in the tropics, the fruits used include banana, papaya, mango, pineapple, apple and seedless grapes (from China), and some other local delicacies that I don't know the English names of.
Another thing I do with nuts is to make my own nut butter. I take the five kinds of nuts in equal proportions and grind them as fine as possible to make a creamy butter. To aid in the final grind of the mix, I add walnut oil sufficient to make the product workable so that I can get a spreadable nut butter. No sugar, salt, or mystery ingredients. This preparation is delicious with home made whole grain bread.
