All the hand wringing, anger and political posturing over the immigration problem is quite interesting.
I have the distinct impression - call it opinion if you like - that the problem has a huge element of Mexican criminality that the current Mexican president has declared war on. (It doesn't appear that he's doing so well.) Actually it is more complicated than that - Columbia and central American countries are involved and/or affected.
Why is it so difficult to see that much of the problem would reduce, even go away if we focus on the health aspects instead of the legal aspects? Cure, or reduce the demand for drugs, by the American public.
In my opinion, not enough is being done in the area of drug use and addiction in our country.
Of course this does not address the Mexican (read Latin American) problem of runaway population growth and the resulting poverty that produces. The Spanish legacy lives on.
