Star Wars Legacy, Volume 10: Extremes

I have to say that I have really enjoyed this comic book/graphic novel series. Jumping ahead more than 100 years, provides a fresh spin on the Star Wars legend with fresh characters and different twists and turns. This is actually the last page of this series, which will be evolving into Star Wars Legacy War.

The Sith Empire's recent massacre on Dac, the homeworld of the Mon Calamari and their enemies the Quarren, has left the galaxy stunned. While no one is surprised that there are consequences for the Mon Calamari's support for the Alliance, few would have expected that most of the population of the planet would be targeted by the Sith Empire with a biological weapon.

This horrific act also provides a unique opportunity for the Sith Empire and its regent leader Darth Wyyrlock, who knows the Alliance will feel an obligation to do what it can to save as many residents of the planet as they can. This creates an opportunity to not only punish the traitors, but set up a trap to destroy some Alliance forces. The Alliance, knowing that it is a likely trap, sends Stazi on the rescue mission even as its ally, the Galactic Empire, is reluctant to take such action.

Cade Skywalker continues his mission to try and take down the Sith Empire. His newest targets are those who were directly responsible for the Dac situation. He turns to his Hutt allies, who have information that will help him out greatly.

The Galactic Empire is dealing with a crisis of its own. Emperor Fel's daughter Sia has been captured by the Sith, and everyone is concerned about what that means. She, literally has knowledge of every aspect of the Empire, from the location it's secret throneworld Bastion to critical military details. Galactic Knight Ganner, who has long-loved her heads out on a secret mission to save her, even if it means his own destruction and going against orders.

The Sith themselves are starting to show signs of division. Emperor Darth Krayt has gone missing, though Regent Darth Wyyrlock insists he is just spending time on a healing retreat while secretly knowing he actually killed the Sith leader. The problem is that not everyone is happy with Wyyrlock's leadership. A few of them decide that they are going to see what they can do to oust him, only they find out a much bigger secret ... one that could change everything for the Sith.

I really did enjoy this last volume. It had all of the elements that have made me enjoy this series so much! Great characters, complex interactions between sides (of which there are three: the good, the bad, and the not-so-bad), and some really interesting battle scenes on the individual and fleet level.

My one disappointment is a mixed one. I had heard this was the final volume, which left me sad to start off with, but I was looking forward to seeing how everything played out. It seems like the title is just evolving a bit. As mentioned above, it will be continuing under a new name, Star Wars Legacy War. As a result, I was left with cliffhangers. ARRGH! So, there was a bit of frustration, but that does mean that there will be more to read! YIPPEE!
