Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8: Volume 8

Joss Whedon brings Buffy fans to the conclusion of the comic season 8 with an epic battle that brings back most of their favorite characters as well as a return to the roots of what really made the series so popular to begin with. Demons from an alternate dimension are flooding into our's, and it is going to take everything Buffy has got to beat them back. Once again, it is the Scooby gang up to prevent Armageddon

Spike returns with the help of an insectoid crew aboard a bio-blimp with some information that will help Buffy sort out just what needs to be done. He is just in time! Buffy has been branded a terrorist by the government because of the slayer army that has been working across the world to fend back the dark forces of evil, while not being so quiet about it. This is probably why she is willing to work with a secret government agency (and an old friend) when they come calling to lend a hand.

I thought this was a really great way to end the season. While I have enjoyed reading the books, I was thrilled that Joss Whedon made the decision to return back to the things that made the franchise so tremendously popular to begin that. While the comic season 8 removed a lot of the budgetary constraints to television storytelling, the really great Buffy was not always about epic battles. While this story specifically does rely on that plot device, it also allows the Buffyverse to reset itself back to the beginning in a way. Definitely a great read.

I am already looking forward to season 9!
