A Romantic History in Songs

I have always been one of those people that wanted to have a song when I was with that someone special. It always worked out that I always did have on song that stood out. Here is a list of songs that played a role in my romantic history.

Beautiful in My Eyes by Joshua Kadison

I was a late bloomer in coming to terms with being gay. Heck, I was a late bloomer in dating at all. My first serious dating partner was named Jenn. We started dating in my senior year in high school. She was a good friend. And I thought I wanted her to be more so I was fortunate when she said yes to our first date ... and going steady! I owe her a lot. Having lost her own mom when she was young, she was really there for me when my mom died that year.

Inspiration by Chicago

One of the first guys I really got to know was Dan. To this day, we are really great friends. I think one of the biggest reasons why we never really progressed to being more than that was because we lived so far apart. He is from Indiana. So, to this day, we still are good friends. In a way, the song really works because our friendship is really special, and we have really been lucky to know each other.

When Can I See You Again by Babyface

My first real boyfriend was Matt. It is probably because of him that I ended up coming out. It did not end under the best of terms, but it was really a life-changing experience. It was because of him that I felt ready to come out to my friends and family. Looking back, it was really for the best. I just wish we could have found a way to be friends.

My HEart Will Go On by Celine Dion

And in the end, I ended up with Rayray. Our first real date was dinner and a chance to see a movie. We saw Titanic and held hands in the theater the whole time. I guess I should have known then that we were in it for the long haul. OK ... maybe we shouldn't celebrate with a song about love lasting through death, but it really all started with Rose and Jack. In away, it sorta describes the quirky way we beat the odds by meeting and knowing that we hold each other dear.

Well, thanks for joining me on my walk down memory lane. The funny thing is that you would think that I would have less than fond memories with some of this, but they really were all great people. There were also a few others that did not end up with "that special song," but they all touched my life and helped define me. That makes they something to cherish.

When we are dating, we are searching for someone to spend our lives with. Sometimes, we miss the mark, but that doesn't mean the other person was horrible or that your time together was not a good thing. It just meant you weren't meant to be more than you were. Looking back, I remember the good times of laughter and tender moments. Just enjoying the time together as we shared whatever time together we had.

One of the good things about time passing is that you forget the bad parts of a relationship.

great post A.J......we all have songs in our life which call to mind faded and mebee not so faded loves. Mr. Bugg died the year "Titanic" came out and to this day, I cannot hear that song by Celine Dion without weeping(tearing up a little now just writing about it). Another one that'll get me to bawling is "One Sweet Day" by Boyz to Men and Maria Carey (I think). The lyrics to that one really hit the nail on the head

Certain songs still remind me of some special people in my life. I even have songs that remind me of family members. My sister who has passed from this earth always liked "The Tennessee Waltz." My friend, Richard, liked "Funny Valentine," and Jimmy T. broke up with me when the song "If Ever I Would Leave You" by the Lettermen was playing. It is nice to have some song memories and other song memories make me sad.
