Today definitely did not turn out as I had expected. I was hoping to finish up the booklet of information I give to the young adults when they register for the summer reading program this morning. That way, I could work on proofing it this afternoon and have it ready to start printing. My boss had different plans.
We are redesigning the reference area. Besides moving around the shelving units, we are also getting rid of some file cabinets. In the process of clearing the shelves and cabinets out, we cleaned up and reorganized the area. It took 4 of us four hours to work on it, and everything came out looking pretty well.
On a bright note, I was able to spend some of the time reorganizing my own space. I can actually see the top of what is sorta of my desk. It is almost shocking! It is actually quite ironic since I was just posting about how much of a mess it was.
I am excited about the changes, though. We are supposed to have someone come in next week. He is going to remove one set of shelves and break it down in sections. Some of them will go on the end of the remaining two rows, and they will be shortened to four shelves in height. It is supposed to give us better eyelines to the area. I think it will work. the removed shelves are going to be put in the staff area so we can use them to store the different projects the staff members are working on. It really will make for a better use of space.
So, while the day didn't go as planned, we did get a lot done. I was also able to finish up the booklet this afternoon. I still have to sit down and proof it, but the bulk of the work is done. That means all I have left to do is the staff guidelines sheet (a cheat sheet) and the different forms the kids can fill out for entries for the weekly drawings during the summer.
