Last week was one of my killer weeks, schedule-wise. You all know me and how I have a bad habit of spreading myself thin when it comes to groups I commit myself to. The ironic thing is that I really enjoy it. One of the sessions I had was the meeting of the library board of trustees on which I serve in town. Besides our usual business, we also had to adjust the board to respond to some sad news we received.
Our board president, who has helped lead the library for the past 12 years and is largely responsible for the fact that we now have a new beautiful library, had to resign. While the reasons were great, he has gotten engaged and moving to another community in RI to live with his soon-to-be wife, he will definitely be missed. we unanimously voted to recommend to the town council to appoint him as a trustee emeritus in honor of everything he has done for the library. While that means he will not be a voting member, he will always be welcome to join us at meetings and participate in the decision making process.
That left us with an open seat and a need to elect a new chairperson. I was very honored to have the previous chair nominate me to step into the role. He said some very kind things about me. Everyone else expressed their support, and I was elected to be the new chair.
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve my local library in new and different ways.
