Inifinite Crisis

I previously posted reviews of the really great series 52 that presented DC Comics' realignment of their superheroes. Infinite Crisis presents that tales that set up the conflict and collapse that brings about the events in that later series. Wonder Woman is realing from having killed a man on television because she had to do so. Batman is confronted with the fact that he was involved in the creation of the OMAC, a major super-computer system that was designed to protect the planet if things went wrong with the planet's superbeings. The problem is that the OMAC systems are turning on the planet and trying to remove the superbeings before it becomes necessary. Wonder Woman's recent actions are a big part of why all of this is happening. Superman is dealing with the fact that he is not sure how all of this was allowed to happen.

All of the world's heroes are brought in to save the planet from OMAC and a number of major supervillains that have lined up with Lex Luther to take advantage of the situation. Behind the scenes, the Superman, Lois Lane, Superboy, and Alex Luther of alternative timelines are keeping an eye on things, hoping to smooth over recent troubles.

This is an interesting tale, but it is really a bridge that connects the events that led to the big three's troubles. This series of comics shows their ultimate decision to fade into the background, resulting in a year of troubles as the superbeings of earth try to rebound from current events. That is the tale of 52. I think I might have enjoyed it a little better if I didn't know where things were going.

What is really interesting is the tale seems to directly address the dark nature that many of today's comics have taken. This nature has allowed earth's greatest superheroes to be flawed, thus Wonder Woman's murder of a dark criminal. At the same time, those flaws make these heroes less heroic and more than just a bit tarnished. Today's heroes by no means have the image they had during the golden age of comics.

I would definitely suggest that people who are fans of DC superheroes read this one, but I would suggest making sure to read it before 52.

'What is really interesting is the tale seems to directly address the dark nature that many of today's comics have taken. ' I'll go for the 'old days' when heroes were heroes amd villains were villians--heroes didn't have a 'dark' side.
