The Haunted Microwave

Ray and I had a little kookyness pop up in our kitchen starting on Thursday evening. We had just finished making our dinner and were sitting in the dining room way Ray noticed that the microwave was turning itself on and off all by itself. It was almost like something was starting it and stopping it for us.

We knew that it was really just some sort of short in the microwave, but it was cool to consider the possibility that our house was haunted. Of course, we decided to unplug the thing so it would not start some sort of fire and burn the house to the ground. That would definitley be a bad thing.

Today, we went over to Sears to look for a new microwave to replace it. In all honesty, we couldn't complain about the one we had. I actually got it when I moved out on my own when I was 19 years old. That was 13 years ago so it was quite the deal. We decided that we wanted to try and get something by the same company.

We were able to do that. In fact, looking at it when I was switching the old one out for the new one, I think we actually bought the newer version of the one we had. What is really cool is that it was on sale and pretty cheap! They also upgraded and added to the features so this new one can do even more than the old one did. Probably the most important thing is that it still has the ever-important "popcorn button!" This one also has a softening feature so you can put things in it to soften up stuff like butter! That is really cool for when you are baking.

On a side note, I walked around and looked at the flat screen TVs while Ray was working with the sales representative to buy the microwave. It was really cool to see that the cost of the big screen TVs are coming down. We have a 62" projection screen TV. It works really well, but it would be pretty cool to upgrade to one of the flatscreens so we could save some space with the smaller case. It is not something that we have to do any time soon, though since the TV we have now, works fine. It just doesn't have the high definition capabilities of the new TV. It is definitely worth waiting a while for the prices to come down, though.

Sounds a little familiar...we recently had to throw out our microwave, the one that came with Edie so it was more than 14 years old...but, no, it was not haunted. It was just dead. Here's where the story loses any familiarity...we didn't have to buy another one because, luckily, we had a spare one. That one came with me, so it too is over 14 years old, but it is working just fine. (We don't "cook" with a microwave because we just don't really believe in it, we're just not comfortable with it, if you know what I mean...we heat up cups of coffee, tea, bowls of soup, help speed along the thawing process if something won't be thawed in time, and maybe heat up a Lean Cuisine or some leftovers once in awhile. So, this oldie is fine for us.)

I'd love to have a huge TV. I don't complain about the two 27" ones we have...less electricity than the ones we'd love to have...and I can always watch the great big screen when I do my petsitting job.

How did we ever cook before microwaves? Are yours made in the USA? Nothing here is made in Australia any more, everything comes from Indonesia or China and most of it is sub standard.
We got a new flat screen TV... the picture quality is excellent, especially digital, but boy they use the power! they just about get hot enough to cook on... apparently they will have to build a new power station just to take the increased power used by flat screen TV's. Plasma uses twice as much power as LCD, in case you are buying.
