Well, our Technology Coordinator spent some time with my suffering laptop yesterday and quickly declared that it was time to perform last rites. It was not really the news I had been hoping for since it means that I will be losing some of my files. On the bright side, everything is technically backed up, but I will have to update the files since the backups are not really current. It is not a lot of work, but it is something that I will run into from time to time.
I spent most of yesterday trying to prep my new laptop for my use. That meant installing the software I need. This includes things like PrintShop, PageMaker, Photoshop Elements, and other things. I spent most of the day doing it, and I took disks home so I could keep doing it into the evening.
In fact, my whole day was pretty rough. I seemed to have some sort of aura that brought about bad things. For example, when I went to help a patron with the microfilm reader, the bulb blew. I dropped my nickels container at work so when I got to play cards, I didn't have them. I did recover them this morning, though.
The good news is that the new laptop has a larger screen and is newer so it is faster and has more memory. I will have gun getting to know it.
The funniest thing is that after the IT told me the computer was dead, I couldn't get the sound of munchkins in The Wizard of OZ asking "is she really, truly dead" out of my head!
