I am going through computer withdrawal. There is something wrong with my laptop. It is actually my work machine, but I get to take it home. I use it for work, for my teaching, and also for whatever I need to do when I am at home. Well, I went to turn it on yesterday morning when I got to work, and I got an eerie message that basically said it could not find its own hard drive. That is probably not a good thing.
I am not really sure what brought this all about since it and I had been hanging out, as we normally do, the night before. I did my usual rounds on Facebook, MyBloggers, and Blogster. There was no sign of any trouble. Well, the troubles are now there all the same. It starts the whole process of loading everything and just gives up with a minor beep and the message I paraphrased above.
There really is not much I can do about it until tomorrow (or Tuesday if the snow is bad enough to keep me out of work) since I need to have our Technology Coordinator look it over to sort things out. It has made work a little easier than normal because I can't actually access any of my files and projects. That means I have been able to just cover the reference desk and do little things in between.
The tough part is that I did not have my laptop last night so I wasn't able to go and hang out with my usual group of e-pals via chat or blogging. I did not realize how much I have gotten addicted to it.
I am hoping the problem is not to severe since there are things on my laptop that I REALLY need to be able to get to for work and for some of the committees I am on. So, please keep your fingers. I think the worst case scenario would be that they would have to take out the hard drive and hook it up to a computer so I can at least download my stuff to a stick drive so I can put it on another computer. Hopefully, it is just something that is loose and will not take long to fix at all. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
