A New Friend

I was just surfing around cyberspace today like I do from time to time when I have nothing better to do with my time. I ran across a really cool guy who lives in Lebanon. We were just chatting. It was interesting. I love to learn about people in other countries.

Lebanon is one of those countries we hear about on the news because of all the troubles they have had over the years, but that does not mean we really know anything about the people who really live there. It turns out that there are people who live and grow up there. They find a lot of happiness and some everyday life even when there are some challenges like civil war and internal strife.

Granted, I know that I didn't really learn all that much just from talking to someone for a little while, but I do feel that I know a lot more than I did. I just love learning about other people and cultures.

Yes it was a bit lit the south of France - when France and Britain carved up the middle east after WWII the French got Lebanon... Then after WWII the USA wanted a piece of the action so installed Israel... and it all went even more belly up for the locals from then on... One of the multitude of tragedies of human history. do you intend to travel? You'd better get a move on while there's still enough oil to power aeroplanes.

I'm like you. I love learning about other cultures.
I love to play Backgammon and Scrabble online which gives me a chance to chat with people from all over the world. I've had amazing conversations with all sorts of people -- I was once offered a trip to Turkey. Some guy said he'd pay all my expenses. I politely turned him down.

I'm a little familiar with Lebanon thanks to some Lebanese friends and a little I learned when training/learning to be a travel agent. The friends I have (and others I briefly met and conversed with at gatherings) are extremely friendly people who all seem to have great family pride and pride in their work. Some of the tales and legends that come from that country are quite fascinating.

Good on you for wanting to learn about the world outsdie the USA -- that places you in a minority. I was in Lebanon in the 60's, before all the horrors. Great country, beautiful, friendly people, wonderful scenery... what has happened in the last few decades are crimes against the planet and humanity... and mostly all in the name of religion, although inspired by lust for water and oil.

That would be so much easier if I were independently wealthy ... or won PowerBall.
