On Friday, Ray was finally able to get his hands on a WiiFit. I am not really 100% sure why he was so into getting this one. He kept saying that it ws for me, but I am pretty happy with the new exercize routine I have been working on for the past few months. The weight training with the bike riding has me feeling really good. It seems to get my day started better than a cup of coffee, and it seems to be doing a pretty good job with keeping my weight done and letting me tone up. A part of me thinks that it is really for him, but he won't say much.
For those of you unfamiliar with the game, it is the new "hot" game for the Wii. it is really hard to get your hands on. To give you an idea about that, Ray has been trying to buy one since it first came out, which I think was in April. Most of the routines tie in with the Wii Balance Board.

The first thing you do is go through a weigh-in so the machine can check your BMI. As part of it, it asks you your height. It also wants to know your birthday. Then, it takes you through a series of balance tests. When it is finished it gives you your Wii age, which is based on your age, BMI, and your performance baced on the tests. I ended up being 35 years old, which is only 3 years higher than it should be. Ray turned out to be 49, when he is really soon to be 43. All-in-all, it was not really all that bad.
This is recorded and tracked so you can retake the tests to see how you are doing over time or just go based on your BMI. The second seems to be the most logical option. it allows you to set goals to reach for in a certain amount of time, and it will help you track your success.
Then, you have access to any number of exercizes, including routines for yoga, aerobics, strength training, and balance games. As you complete the routines and do well, it opens up more challenging versions of the games so you can continue to improve.
My one problem with the whole system is that so much weight is based on the idea of balance. According to a review at the start of the system, balance is an important reflection of health and fitness since the better able you are to keep good balance, the more body control you have. That means your muscles are better toned, keeping your bones in alignment and you have no pesky fat to throw you off balance. I think it is important, but I am not sure that it is as important as the system implies. Of course, I am biased because I have always had terrible balance. I am a klutz!
It is pretty fun. it tracks how much exercize you do each day with a timer. You also build up points for what you accomplish with your various exercize choices. It will be interesting to see what sort of effect it has on me and on Ray. I secretly can't help but wonder if it will help him with his weight.
