Ellie and Henry are deeply in love and are about to start of their new life together. While they are waiting for their wedding, they hav taking on the job of house-sitting for Ellie's eccentric Aunt Kate in Burton, Virginia. Ellie, who has fond memories of wonderful times with Kate, finds herself really enjoying the time in the house.
While in the library, Ellie comes across some interesting information in an old book she finds on the shelves. It introduces a whole series of secrets relating to witchcraft and ghosts with ties to the six founding families of Burton. She finds this all intriguing and starts looking further into the mystery.
It is this search for secrets hat is going to drag Ellie and Henry into a whirlwind of dangers everyone with connections to it start getting involved. The question is whether they can sort out everyone who is involved before any serious harm comes to the two of them.
I found myself just thinking of Jessica Fletcher while reading this one. It was almost like Aunt Kate was her, and this was her little community in Maine, where everyone knows everyone else, and they all seem to have mysterious secrets that can lead to murder most fowl.
While this is different from most of Peters' archaeologically tied tales, this one is definitely loads of fun and does shy away from the mysteries of history and small town gossip.
