This weekend, the new library's new Friends group had its first big fundraising event. We had a book and bake sale, and it turned out to be pretty successful. We had a little 2-hour preview session last evening. In order to shop at the preview session, people had to buy a membership in the Friends group.
Today was the big event. It was four hours of fun. The good news is that we sold almost a $1000 of books and treats. We also brought in $65 of membership dues. Overall, that makes it one of the biggest success the library has ever had for a book sale.
I am thinking the children's department staff will be thrilled because it was decided that all that money would be turned over to them to use for this year's summer reading program. That should be a nice big boost to kick off their first summer reading program in the new building.
