Have spent the last three weeks travelling, stopping some days at caravan parks but mostly staying with relatives and enjoyed it all.
Port Augusta where I lived for 20 years has certainly changed for the better, the wharf area is now a tourist attraction , where once it had railway lines and good sheds its now lawned with seats underneath shade trees and playgrounds for the kids , even the beach area has been cleaned up and the fishing boats that were anchored there have all gone.
The main street has become one way traffic , one of the two story hotels has been demolished to become an upmarket accommodation and restaurant, too rich for my blood though just a rump steak and serve yourself buffet cost $30 , oh well the tourists have plenty of money.
West Augusta where once was sand dunes is now all housing with more being built for those working in the oil fields and copper gold uranium mines just a few hundred kms north that live in the town, a lot of the workers work on a rotation system so many days on then off again where they move back to their family in town.
Also called into Moonta stayed at nieces place for a few days her son Sam has grown a lot in the last eight months he is now a six footer and built like his grandfather without the paunch, met up with a few more rellies that I have not seen for ages another great stop .
Then over to Stansbury caravan park Yorke Peninsular where Cath and I intend to stay some time in February, we won an travel auction 10 days at half price which can be split into 2x5 days its on the beach front and it has a fishing jetty close handy . The park itself looks great and the amenities block is spot less.
