The rules allow bathroom breaks and he was chewing on a candy bar when I saw him around the tenth hour. He finally quit after thirteen hours.

A fellow from around here was asked to show up at old League Park in Cleveland when the Red Sox were in town. They wanted to see him pitch, and he was a semi-pro. It was around 1920. His pay for the trip and the tryout? A ham sandwich and a cold beer. They didn't sign him, either.

Portraits are extremely difficult, take too much time and should go for more cash. The painters in Wash. D.C. who do official portraits of cabinet members get a minimum of 22-23k, and for portraits that are not that good. The portrait of the first lady gets around $75k. I did my portrait for the cost of a brake job.

Authors/even aspiring writers, have "lineages." One of my favorite authors, Umberto Eco, was a devotee of Borges. Eco writes about Borges in several of his articles written for an Italian news agency. From his mentions of Borges, I began to read and collect Borges' books. Lineage?

The religious fanatics who believe the earth was created 6,000 years ago are Luddites, and will one day be accumulations in the same dustbin of history that happily accepted communism, women's bustles and witchcraft trials.

One earthquake in CA left us without electric power for about four days. I checked the gas meter and line and did not shut it off, but many neighbors did. They had to wait for over a week to have the gas company turn it back on. You are not allowed to do that yourself. I got out my old cowboy enamel coffee pot and made perked java on the stove. We thought we were 'roughing it!'

Good post. I miss Buca di Beppo here in the Ohio provinces... and to think that it all started in nearby Cleveland! Out on the shaky coast our bunch used to go there ten or twelve at a time and get to sit at the table in their kitchen.
Your sauce sounds delicious. Recipe?
