The Professor will disagree with some of my post, but he and I share some opinions about the National Pastime. I think we agree that the sport is being ruined by greed, constantly escalating players' salaries and the resulting escalation of prices for the fans, drug and steroid scandals, misbehaving athletes, among other things.
But it is the Equinox and it is time for my personal forecast of the post-season playoffs.
Here goes:
National League. There is no doubt in my mind that the St. Louis Cardinals will go all the way through. That team has more talent than half of the rest of the league put together. There are a few holes in their starting pitching staff, but those look to be getting better in the final days. Pujols is the best batter in baseball. He is not the only big hitter on that staff. The manager could be the best active manager in the sport. Forget the rest. The Phillies or even the Dodgers won't be able to take the Cards down.
American League: Here there is still a debate. The best look like the Yankees, the Angels, and the Tigers. Of the bunch, the NY team has CC Sabathia. We had him in Cleveland for most of his career. He chokes in the big game. Boston will get the wild card but they are not the team that had Manny Ramirez (another Indians product) and Ortiz is on a fast downslope. The Angels are tough. I have watched many of their games on TV this season and can see some weaknesses that my choice team doesn't have...
The Tigers. Verlander is my choice of the best mound ace in the League this year, with the possible exception of Kansas City's Greinke. (Greinke should win the AL Cy Young Award in my estimation, but he won't because the team is crap, just like my beloved Tribe.) I believe the Motor City Kitties will make it to the Big Show and meet the Cards for the rings.
I pick the St. Louis Cardinals to win the World Series, in 6 or 7 games. Albert Pujols will win the NL MVP and Minnestoa's catcher, Mauer will win the AL MVP.
If I am wrong, so what? Remember that I am a Cleveland Indians fan and could not care less.
