Native to the western US, mountain altitudes. The look like Birch, in the Larch family. Tall and slender with white-ish bark.

A late note about New Year's and what it means to me:
Nada. Zip. Nichevo. I believe it shouldn't even be a holiday or a day-off. The only thing it means is my taxes are now due.
