The Tour
We received the call that my grandmother had passed away during church on Wednesday, May 19th. We were already packed, so we left at 5am on Thursday morning. Traffic was great all the way to the border. Twelve hours later, we were crossing over the bridge into the Home of the Free and Land of the Brave! I love America! We worried about road blocks and "druggie" activity close to the border, but we saw none.
After spending the night in Laredo, TX, we made our way up Highway 83 the entire length of Texas to Blair, OK. LOOOOOONG!!!!
The funeral was held on Saturday. I was asked to read some anecdotes from Grandma's life, many of them quite humorous. I prefaced my part by explaining that we intended no disrespect, but that life in itself is humorous and this was a celebration of HER life. It went well. I make some remarks of my own before finishing. The service was short but adequate and very tastefully done. Grandma looked pretty as she always did. Unlike my Mexican friends, we arent' prone to photograph the deceased, so no pics of her post mortem.
We hung out with my dad and family that day and the next. Tuesday, we struck out for Wisconsin, to visit Jennifer's grandmother who has been diagnosed with cancer and had already had a mastectomy. She is refusing chemotherapy and has chosen to live out the rest of her days as long as she can. That's been two years and she's doing quite well. She is using a diet that is designed to fight cancer and reduce the size/amount (??) of the cells/tumors (??). She is very active and engaging.
I'll write more later. I've waited so long to post that writing everything at once would intimidate would-be readers.
