After three years, I still haven't figured out that the people in this town do not get up early. When I first moved here from the United States, I would get up early and rush off to town hoping to get some errands done before ten o'clock. Nothing doing. Most businesses don't even open until a little (or a lot) after ten. I ended up going back home to wait (and blog) more times than I care to remember. This morning, I was up by five o'clock and ready to roll by seven after doing pastoral things like read the Bible and pray for my congregation. Filled with all that religious zeal and fervor, I struck out at a quarter after eight to visit an elderly couple that had requested a visit. Poor little thing, I woke her up. She came to the door, hair all matted and messed up, in a night gown. I apologized profusely, promised to return later and retreated to my hideaway to blog about it. Violá.
