Yesterday, a gang of burglars broke into my home. I just happened to come home as they were finishing up. They ransacked the place, made off with some valuables and destroyed three precious, irreplaceable, family heirlooms. The most tragic event was the murder of one of my children who was sleeping in his bedroom when they broke in. They also left a threat behind. One of them dropped a note in his hurry to get away. It contained some cryptic information about a bomb they had hidden in some area associated with our lives. We WERE able to gather that it is scheduled to go off in the next few days. We aren't sure if it refers to our home, where we work, our car or some other place we frequent. In their hurry to leave, their ringleader tripped on a power cord and fell, knocking him unconscious. I hurriedly tied him up with my belt and called the authorities.
How far would you go in trying to get information about the bomb to protect your family and friends, if this were you?
Bear in mind, this crook and murderer is not some innocent, random person. He was caught at the scene of an atrocious crime.
I fully understand Christ's command to turn the other cheek, but let's face it. Few of the people reading this post even subscribe to the notion that the Bible is the infallible Word of God and that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and Son of God. So let's not go there. We can talk about that among those of us who accept those two basic tenets of fundamental Christianity.
