Constitutional Amendment

I don't know about you, but I am completely fed up with the people that I elect to Congress being bought by billionaires and Wall Street firms that line their pockets.
And now, thanks to an extremely conservative Supreme Court that, in 2010, passed Citizens United, which allows corporations to make political contributions for the first time, and without having to disclose these contributions (So that We, The People never know who is paying off our politicians), I'm mad as all hell, and trust NOBODY in D.C.
I am jaded enough now to believe that the folks I have voted for in Congress care about only two things: 1. Making tons of money from these covert campaign contributions and from corporate lobbyists, and 2. getting re-elected so that they can make more money from these covert campaign contributions and from corporate lobbyists.
Harry Truman, who left office a poorer man than when he entered it, said that any politician who leaves politics richer than when he/she became elected is a crook.
Will Rogers once said, "We've got the best Congress that money can buy."
To me, it's no longer funny.
That's why I am sharing the following email that I received today with all of you.
Read the Constitutional Amendment that is being proposed below. If you agree with it, click on the link beneath it and sign the petition, and then forward it to everybody that you know.
If you don't, then quit griping about how corrupt Washington D.C. is.
Here's the email:
It's Time to GET MONEY OUT of politics

Bailouts. War. Unemployment. Our government is bought, and we’re angry.
Now, we’re turning our anger into positive action. By signing this
petition, you are joining our campaign to get money out of politics. Our
politicians won’t do this. But we will. We will become an unrelenting,
organized wave advocating a Constitutional amendment to get money out of
politics.

As the petition grows, we can use my show on MSNBC as a platform
to force this issue to the center of the 2012 elections. Join us. Sign
up. Tell your friends. Facebook it. Tweet it.#GetMoneyOut.

From our Washington Isider, Jimmy Williams, here is our Constitutional Amendment:
"No
person, corporation or business entity of any type, domestic or
foreign, shall be allowed to contribute money, directly or indirectly,
to any candidate for Federal office or to contribute money on behalf of
or opposed to any type of campaign for Federal office. Notwithstanding
any other provision of law, campaign contributions to candidates for
Federal office shall not constitute speech of any kind as guaranteed by
the U.S. Constitution or any amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Congress shall set forth a federal holiday for the purposes of voting
for candidates for Federal office."

Off the subject, but did you hear my honk as I bypassed Coventry two weeks ago while in New England?

I THOUGHT that was you! Next time, let me know when you're coming, and we'll get together at The Main Street Cafe! (Kristy's been there when she visited from D.C., and she can attest to the fact that it's an EXCELLENT pub!)

Thanks. I've been wanting to "do something". This is a start.

Me too. And, if you revisit the link today, you'll see that they've modified the amendment slightly.

How about including state office races? The Koch brothers have been subsidizing small state elections that go unnoticed but that have been major factors in redrawing voting districts to favor Republican candidates and in making laws that help disenfranchise minorities and the poor like a photo i.d. being mandatory in order to vote.
