Tracy Morgan Join Forces with Glaad?

Tracy Morgan stars on Tina Fey's '30 Rock.'CAPTIONBy John Sciulli, Getty ImagesTracy Morgan is making the rounds with his mea culpa following the homophobic rant in a recent stand-up act in Nashville that's landed him in hot water. With the help of his friend Russell Simmons and GLAAD, the 30 Rock star is trying to clean up the scandal.

"Of all the sicknesses, there is probably none more abusive than homophobia," Morgan told Simmons in a Global Grind interview. "What I am most sad about is the comments I made about kids and bullying. I would never want any young person to think that I wasn't on their side and if any young person thinks they can bully a young gay kid, come see me at 30 Rock. On the corner, I would be happy to meet you. Or Brooklyn if you can't make it into Manhattan."

Ironically, Morgan says he knows the sting of homophobic bullying, as his family was ostracized when his father died of AIDS.

"I know how bad bullying can hurt. I was bullied when I was a kid," he tells GLAAD. "My family knew what it was like to feel different. My brother was disabled and I lost my father to AIDS in 1987. My dad wasn't gay but I also learned about homophobia then because of how people treated people who were sick with that. ... I hope that my fans gay, straight, whatever forgive and I hope my family forgives me for this."

Through GLAAD, Morgan and Simmons will meet with gay teens in New York who have been left homeless after their parents disowned them. The duo will also travel to Nashville, where Morgan will apologize to the audience he offended.

"In the years that I have known Tracy, I've only ever known him to want to make people happy," Simmons tells GLAAD. "This experience might be a blessing. The amount of pain he caused has resulted in a new sensitivity for him that he can now use to bridge communities. I'm proud to be a straight American who spends time advocating for the LGBT community and for marriage equality. I'm happy to have another ally in Tracy. People like Tracy Morgan need to speak out against homophobia and I hope more leaders within the black community and everywhere speak out in support for marriage equality like he has."

Morgan will also film a PSA for GLAAD, voicing his support for the LGBT community. GLADD president Jarrett Barrios is pleased with the steps the comedian is taking to repair the damage his words caused.

"By not only apologizing, but sending a message of support for gay and transgender people, Tracy will help many realize that no one should be treated differently or subjected to violence," Barrios says. "It is so important that Americans hear from allies like him as well as gay and transgender youth shunned by their families and parents who have lost their only children to anti-gay violence. We look forward to working with him on spreading this message to Americans."

Time will tell. Meanwhile, the mood is changing for the better, but there will always be neanderthals out there.

I hope this is sincere. It could be... I've heard of people who used the "N" word and then were genuinely remorseful. A change of heart concerning homophobia can happen the same as reversing racial stereotyping.

Maybe so,but this will be damaging for some time with him.
Wonder what the family has to say about this. Why do people risk their talent to make a remark like that.He can apologized all that he want but will not helped him.Never cared for him.Thought that he was gay himself.
These people who make hompobic act natural are.

While I found the things he said to be offensive, I must give him credit for admitting that he made a mistake and is trying to make up for it. While it might not be an honest attempt, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. People sometimes learn from their missteps.
