Lets Talk About Buffy

This is sort of a different Blog.
Lets Talk About Buffy.
Well he will be 13 yrs next month.
He is good health with minor problems of his joints.
Other than that he is fine.
He was a rescue dog from the Cocker Spaniel.
Our first one was a cocker and died at a very young age of 7
From as they tell us blood disease.
We had him as a pup.
Buffy came to our place at the age of one year plus.
Abused by children in the last owner.
I have spend many dollars in getting him some training.
Some works and some not.
I have been bitten by him many times and so has Mike.
One of the bite that I got was infected and spend several day in the hospital.
Everyone was asking to put him down and I refused to do this.
First I looked at the behavior that he had with the prior owner.
Mike called the Cocker Spaniel Rescue to come and get him back as we do not want him.
When it was time and Mike says they will come if needed.
We have put up with this for so many years and kept quiet about this to our friends.
Why!not sure was I ashamed?maybe.
Knowing that there is something good there and I am going to find out.
Here we are 12 years later and spending many dollars on him with the health issues and of course feeding him and boarding him.
Why did I go through with this?not sure.
When he goes to day care in his younger days and saying that he was no problem and they loved him.
Going to be groomed no problem.
So what is the answer?not sure.
I or we stuck by him all these years and finally he came to a halt of snapping at us.
He love Mike and goes wherever he goes.
Yes,he loves me also.
I know that they are problem many people out there whey did you put up with this problem.
Not sure but I did and glad that I did.
He is a very lucky dog to be with us.
I know that many out there would not have put up with this.
we have gave up so many things so that he can share our home.
Now that he is 13 and losing some of his hearing and vision he is a jewel so far.He behave and had a few accident in the house and this is typical of some dogs.
Yes,Buffy is one lucky dog and we loved him.

This is when he had his surgery.
We will see what the future will bring.
Thank you for listening to Talking about Buffy.

My three rescued cats went through bipolar episodes (a reaction to being abandoned, then caged, and without enough affection) and at times it was hard to see how to go on with them. I would never return an animal to shelter conditions if I can help it, and we were rewarded with three very loving animals now. You did the right thin by Buffy and it seems he appreciates it.

He is doing much better. We had our share of problems but worked it out.
Glad to hear that the family of cats are doing great.

An abused dog is just different. Rex was abused but he has reacted to it by
being frightened of anything strange including strange men. A watch dog he
is not. It was days before he would walk on the kitchen floor or go into
Ted's studio because it was different. I have only heard him growl twice
and that was when he raised the hair on his back and growled at something
outside. He is neurotic but is a great source of love and companionship. He is a love junkie.

Buffy abused mostly by children of the first owner.

Hate to say it, but a lot of cockers are biters... Well, I should clarify --- in MY experience, I have known several cockers that bite. I don't think I would tolerate that --- I wouldn't have put him down for it either tho... I wonder if the previous owners yelled at him for growling. That's a faux pas, because the growl is a nice warning, when it's punished out of the dog they go to the bite. What was the situation? Was he sleeping? Body language is soooo important to be able to read. We expect so much from our pups and don't seem to take the time to learn about them. Anyways!!! So happy he has you guys, you are very great owners!!!

Something about the hands. When at dinner table and believed that he is getting something from the table and let my hand down. Not sure what his vision was telling him and probably
thought that I had something. The other time not biting but growling when trying to remove a tic etc from his face. This we have worked it out.The children abused him these are smaller one and that the tease he got from them.Yes,they are biter and snappy. But the first one was not.
Never would I ever put a dog down unless it was something more serious than to me.
I could not lived with that.

Love often defies logic. I can understand why you wouldn't tell all to your friends, because they would just give a lot of gratuitous advice - you and Mike had to make your own decision as to whether to keep Buffy during the snappity years, and sounds like you chose right.

we hope so that we did.I know a lot of them would not have put up with this.
