Weed

This is dedicated to Gary aka coincutter. His most recent posts are about wanting marijuana legal. Neither one of us smoke weed but do agree that making it legal would make life easier for all. First of all, you can't get addicted to it. I'll agree that there are Cheech and Chong types out there that smoke weed all the time but when you do quit you don't go through the with-drawls that meth, heroine, crack addicts go through. Even alcoholics go through some sort of with-drawl when they dry out. Gary covered most of this but I thought I'd add my two-cents. Besides the taxes we'd collect, the reduced crime, and medicinal purposes; we would also create legitimate jobs for pot farmers. It would also open the door for marijuana's non-potent cousin, hemp. Hemp has many benefits including making paper so you don't have to kill a tree, clothing, and you can even make fuel out of it. Going back to addictions. Did you know that nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol are the top three addictive substances(in that particular order)? Think about it. It is legal for most people to buy them and they are very harmful to your body. They also cause some wicked with-drawls if you try to quit them. To all you nay sayers on legalization...I feel bad for you. You are probably the same people that are against stem cell research that may someday cure diseases that either kill or cripple many people.
'nuff said.

I must make a point of reading "coincutters" blog on this subject. I'm very opinionated about this. It's illegal in Canada - growing, selling and using - except for governmentally approved medicinal purposes. What really puzzles me is why not the same hype about alcohol?? In Canada we have Liquor Control Boards in each province and special stores selling wine & booze only. You can't buy the stuff at grocery stores, 7-11's or little shops like in the States. Our government figures it has "control" over the sale of it and is cleaning up on taxing what we buy.
Until our country has figured out how to do the same with sale of weed, it'll remain illegal.
Personally, I believe the use of marijuana is the same as the use of alcohol.
Both should be used in moderation and with respect & care.

It's already been approved for medicinal purposes here. There are enough drunk drivers on the roads. I'd rather not see potheads behind the wheel too.
