My hat is off to the Police, Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics over here on The Oregon Coast. They are very over worked and under appreciated. Recently there was a measure on our May primary ballot that called for raising our transient room tax. It passed with several people saying that our town would die with the increase. One of the groups that would benefit is the emergency workers. Every time I hear a siren it breaks my heart and at the same time makes me glad I voted yes. They need every edge they can get because people aren't going to stop getting into accidents, shooting each other, etc. The three months of summer break is especially hard on them. Approximately every hour I hear a siren scream by my place of work. Actually it's several sirens at a time. Nine out of 10 times it's a car accident due to some tourist "rubbernecking" or talking on their cell phone. In a perfect world they would hang up the bricka brackin' cell phones and pull over to view the ocean. They would take time to smell the roses. Unfortunately the world isn't perfect. Luckily we have our emergency workers to help us out. Thank you very much for being there.
'nuff said.
