My May Diary ( Part Five )

Mother's Day:

Unfortunately, Edie was still feeling very sick and was unable to join me in spending the day with my mom. She was disappointed, but she really didn't mind spending the day alone because all she wanted to do was crash on the couch and be left alone, anyway.

Because Mom had attended a function at her church that morning that included lots of food, she requested going out for a light supper later on in the day instead of going out to eat earlier. So, being that it was a rather nice day, we spent some time outside of her apartment, either sitting on a bench or strolling around a little while we chatted before we went for a ride.

Dad came with us for the ride. I was the driver, of course, and I took them on a nice scenic drive to the city, and then I drove down different streets and through different areas of Providence. They enjoyed it because they seldom go into the city anymore and had never seen some of the newer changes up close. We then returned to Warren, the town where they live, by a different scenic route. By this time, we were all hungry, so we went to Lauren's, which is a relatively new and quite successful moderately-priced restaurant that's less than a mile from my parents' apartment.

It was good to see Mom smiling and enjoying herself because this day not only would have been Mother's Day for HER mom, but it would have also been her mom's birthday. I know this was on my mother's mind because she had mentioned it and had spoken of my grandmother a number of times while we were together. Dad, of course, mentioned his mom a few times, too. We really did have a good time, but we were, undoubtedly, also missing both my gran'ma and my memere.
