Ode to a Trilobite

Trilobites are remarkable, hard-shelled, segmented creatures that existed over 300 million years ago in the Earth's ancient seas. They went extinct before dinosaurs even came into existence, and are one of the key signature creatures of the Paleozoic Era, the first era to exhibit a proliferation of the complex life-forms.

My Ode to the Trilobite are these socks made with SWT TooFutsie yarn.

here's a close up of the stitch work

Now here is a poem my husband wrote:

King of the world (ode to a trilobite)
A trilobite
Is a fossil I like
Early Cambrian
Or Permian alike
They were tradition they didn’t fight
They were class
And they were nice
They didn’t bite
For a primitive arthropod
They were quite advanced
In the ancient oceans
They did a little dance

Before man
Before the dino
Before things got so messed up
Before that big old meteorite
The little trilobite
Was king of the world

I found this little box of take-a-long sock patterns tucked away under a bunch of odd books on the clearance table at Borders Book Store. Only cost $2.99 for all 24 patterns. SCORE!

Great socks and poem. I've decided that if I saw a trilobite scurrying toward me, I'd go "Euwwww! Run! It's a trilobite! Euwwwww!" You'd never convince me that they wouldn't bite.

I am not 100% sure that they don't bite either
