Snow Day Tomorrow?

Tomorrow is the last day of school for many Genesee County schools before the Christmas break. Students will be off for sixteen days and if the snow comes down early enough and fast enough there will most likely be many snow days tomorrow.

I just finished listening to the local news and there are already a few of cancellations for tomorrow. Two of the biggest day programs in this county for the mentally and physically impaired have canceled for tomorrow. There are two or three schools closed too.

The winter storm warning begins at 4 AM this morning and ends at 4 PM tomorrow afternoon. I guess there is supposed to be a couple inches of snow on the ground by the time buses start running for the elementary schools, around 8 AM. By the time this fast moving storm has passed we are supposed to get near eight inches of snow and may end up with a foot.

The only thing that really bites about this little kink in teachers' plans (and students' too) is that if there is no school, there are no Christmas parties and celebrations. It seems a little weird to make them up the day kids return to school next month and next year.

We shall see. I was happy about getting great deals on food today, doing some Christmas shopping for the kids, and having my Christmas dinner menu planned and bought. I forgot that we could end up losing power and some food could spoil. I guess if that were to happen then it is cold enough outdoors to store some of it, boxed up so nothing can get to it of course. We have a gas stove, so we would be able to cook. And heat the apartment some as without electricity the hot water heat isn't forced up from the furnace.

So we shall see. Keeping my fingers crossed. And hoping those out east who have already been through the wringer don't have to go through some of the same again.

Everything is closed here, even the medical offices. The ER at the hospital is open, and we are in Level 2 road status - emergency trips only. I am going out on my nicely covered front porch with a hot coffee and a cigar to listen to the snapping tree limbs. Stay warm, dry and sweet!

I know this is typical for your part of the world. When I lived in western Oklahoma, we would get three or four big snows each year. But, here in central Oklahoma, it snows much less. A White Christmas would be nice; but I don't think it is going to happen.
