Yesterday Marvin Hamlisch (sp?) died. He joins the following celebrities, most in the Arts, who passed away during the last five weeks. Andy Griffith, Ernest Borgnine, Celest Holm, Kitty Wells, Chad Everett, Gore Vidal, Sherman Helmsley, Tony Martin, Maeve Binchy, Judith Crist. These are all people of my generation. I can see all their faces. This is just too close.

Scary, huh? Since I retired from Florida to Utah in 2004, I get regular notices about friends passing away. I'm older than most of them! You just gotta keep plugging.

I was thinking today that we will one of these days be getting up there to where the people who are dying are increasingly our youthful age, or even worse: they are younger than we are, and nobody says they died too young.

I'm older than 1/2 of them!!! Who is Maeve Binchy? Isn't familiar to me. Hamlisch wrote my favorite stage musical of all time--saw it over 100 times on stage from New York to Dallas.
Closer to home--one of my neighbors, Frank, who was everyone's Italian Godfather--in a good sense.

Maeve Binchy is an Irish writer. She has written scads of books. Did you see the movie Circle of Friends a long time ago? She wrote that, among many others.
