Feed Your Head

When Jefferson Airplane sang the immortal words from their hit White Rabbit - "Feed your head," the last thing they were talking about was nutrition.
But today, nutrition is the first thing on many people's minds and the refrain from the classic '60's psychedelic anthem could easily have new meaning.
Indeed, our heads need a different kind of feeding these days - those in the know say that diet plays a significant role in brain function and its long-term health. And as the population ages (who me? never!)everyone should be aware of which foods feed our heads best.

Here's a list of the foods that qualify as "brain food;"

1) Spinach - iron, potassium & folate
2) Pomegranate juice - polyphenol
3) Almonds - calcium & potassium
4) Salmon - gotta get those Omega-3 fatty acids!
5) Orange tomatoes - apparently the color matters for
lycopene absorption
6) Blueberries - fight free radicals & inflammation

I'm sure that there are more foods that can be added to the list and if in doubt, go ask Alice, I think she'll know . . .

You've listed my "worship foods". I substitute wine for pomegranate juice, however. Just as good. Did you know I have an almond tree! And my tiny blueberry bushes are in bloom! You're invited to visit.

You never cease to amaze me Randy! I'd love to see/smell the almond tree when it blossoms! I pick wild blueberries here when in season (that's providing the bears haven't cleaned them all out by then!) And thanks so much for the invite! I wonder how far from here you are? Have a good one

I guess that I will have to change my grocery list. I once knew a guy who
was on a diet where he ate nothing white. I don't think he lost any
weight.

Lately the spice and herb companies have started marketing their products for the health benefits, sometimes I wonder if the usual quantities are sufficient to make a difference, but suppose any little bit helps.

In Long Beach CA a "health food" and vitamin store posted a sign in their windows: BRAIN FOOD INSIDE. I walked in, looked around, and asked the clerk where they put the books.
