Age

One of the most unfortunate weaknesses in the life cycle of our generation is our failure to honor age.

As we mature past the obsessions of our earlier years and wrestle with the meaning of our own midlife, we face the karmic payback to our overemphasis on the value of youth.

We must rediscover and recognize the meaning and importance of the mature, the elder, the wise one.

The generation that led the revolution of the 60's is no longer young; we have at last grown up.

We must lead the new revolution as well, not in rebellious outrage but in moral outrage.

Our fear of age will lessen as we learn to respect its power.

We have grown older-I am not sure we have grown up.

The neatest thing about aging is that I can get away with things I could not before, and yes- I do get more respect!

I agree and fund these quotes to add.

While our culture highly values youth, according to Proverbs 16:31, the gray hair of an older individual is a crown of glory, if the individual is living a righteous life.

What is honor? Honor means to treat with respect or favor. Why should we honor the elderly? Honoring the elderly is not just a matter of good manners or following the norms of society. Honoring our elders is a statute of God, which is recorded in Leviticus 19:32:

"32Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD." (NIV)

Therefore, one reason that we should honor the elderly is because God commands us to do so.
