I forgot that I wanted to say that my favorite palindrome is:
"A man, a plan, a canal, Panama". Top that!

At your service. Lye is sodium hydroxide (NaOH), often called caustic soda. It is made by electrolysis of sodium chloride (salt). It "eats" organic material. My grandmother used it to make soap. I once put my tongue to it, thinking it was salt. Big mistake, as my tongue immediately burned and swelled up. And I did this on my very first day of teaching school! (from an unlabeled jar--curiosity got the best of me)

I can't believe you done that oh my, I know how much that hurts on your skin let alone your tongue. Was there any permenant damage?

You use it in the dishwashers NOT the fryers

I haven't attempted, to try to pronouce it

It's nice that the translation is longer than the word itself... there is some sort of cosmic justice in that.

If I were a Finnish woman, I would dread having to add it to her shopping list

What the heck is caustic soda? Are you trying to confused me there girl.
I am confused enough here.I need this in laymen term.

It is commonly known as "Lye." Soap contains Lye, when mixed with animal or vegetable fat it becomes soap.

I'm pretty sure that my mum used to put some down the outside drain when we lived in London.
I know it's pretty nasty stuff (don't get it on your hands 'nasty).
I have never used it - if I have any troublesome 'grot' to get rid of, I use 'Domestos Grotbuster' - it is faboulous
Actually, Randy may be able to give you more information about it's chemical analysis.
