My Hair . . .

Afternoon all. I have made my decision. I am going to colour my hair again.

I have been many, many, many colours in my life (I love change) lol

Two years ago (ish), I dyed it a really ‘glossy’ black – I was quite happy with that, BUT, I found I was getting a very itchy scalp and areas of my body were itching too. Around my ears, were the worst, so much so that I had to go to the doctors.

As I have often suffered with (what I believed to be ‘psoriasis’), I told the ‘quack’ I thought it was a severe outburst of this. He gave me some ointment and sent me on my way.

Nothing doing – it still would not ease it, plus, around my ear, was becoming septic.

I made a return journey to get antibiotics (I ‘have’ to make sure I do not get ‘blood poisoning’ again).

I was given the penicillin and it helped clear the rash.

So, time passed and it was clear that I needed to ‘touch up’ my roots (I looked like a ‘Badger’) lol So this chore, I duly completed . . .

Oh wow, my ear and scalp flared up again! Then, I realised it was something to do with the dying process!

At this time, I was wearing my hair in a ‘Pob’ (a Victoria Beckham style) and had bought various ‘longer  style’ hair pieces, as an accessories – these were sooo handy to have.

I trawled the internet, for information on the effects of hair colouring on the skin and finally found out that it was due to the added ‘P.C.B’ put into dark coloured hair dyes, that was causing this reaction I had!!

I was flabbergasted! I had been using dyes for simply years and years – no way, did I ever think I would succumb to ‘allergies’!!! But, this fact I was forced to accept.

By the way, the articles I had been reading, also said that anyone, who does find out that they are allergic to these ‘P.C.B’s were to inform their doctor, as it also means that any anaesthetic you need, must have the anaesthetist’s ‘awareness’ to your problem! – Don’t ask me ‘why’, I didn’t read any more about that.

Anyway, gradually I let my hair ‘grow out’ (at least as much as I dared too)lol! Then I coloured it with a far ‘lighter’ shade – no problem (YaY) I felt that I was a bit too old for a ‘bright’ blonde now, so I have been gently (oh so gently) increasing the colours ‘depth’ – not toooo dark, but a little more intensity.

I am off to wash my hair with a ‘clarifying’ shampoo in preparation for tomorrows colouring. Hopefully, it will be the shade I have been striving to achieve. It is a ‘dark blonde’ which working with the colour I ‘am’ now, ought to (again hopefully), reach my goal . . . we’ll see tomorrow, lol

Yes Marta, I managed to get it precisely this time - not so much of 'the glossy effect' as the tv ad's show, but I wasn't expecting too much. I am completely satisfied with it - and, no itchieness

This hair dye business is really a woman's subject (although men do color their hair), but this is interesting about the effect it has had on your scalp. Enjoy your new colour!

I've done it I think it is exactly the same shade as you It is far far better than it was before.
I have made an appointment with the hair dresser for Tuesday afternoon and I am going to have it' layered'
We have had more snow today by the way

Oh, the 'colour' - I wondered what you were talking about then. Yes, I want to get to that shade - I may well pop into the hairdressers one day next week, just to get a 'dry cut' - I want 'layers'. I think that will look ok as it is now past shoulder length.

I love playing around with hair and hair colours! My mother had some kind of scalp thing over the summer. It took several months of antibiotic cream to clear it up.

I was 13 years old, when I first dyed my hair. I was a teenager in the mid '60s it was all the rage to have a very, similar style to the 'Pob' I mentioned in this post - only more 'highly' back-combed . . . and BLONDE (that was the 'key') Since then, I have abused my hair no end - only once, did it 'threaten' to fall out - But it saw sense and remained 'intact' (Just . . . )!
What did help me wit the itchy scalp too, was a product over here called Neutrogena (shampoo). It does 'pong' a bit, but it only takes a couple of washes and it helps the condition and is very soothing.
I know the hair colourants tell you 'do a skin test' - but after all te years of using dyes and 'no reaction', the last thing, I expected was to have just that! Keping to a 'ligter colour', seems to be ok - I won't ever, put Jet Black on again though. Shame, I did like the colour
