Grandsons and Musicals

My daughter took her 6 and 8 year old to see Oklahoma at the local high school. She had forgotten about the dark side of Roger and Hammerstein and the boys got a little upset with the violence and also the kissing scenes. The youngest wanted to know if the actors were old enough to be kissing. So then... she rented The King and I. This is the last communication I have received from her.

"The boys and I were singing "Oh what a beautiful morning" all day so I thought that I would rent the King and I. Oh the drama!!!! We were about half way through the movie when Joshua bowed to Christopher like they do in the movie. Christopher yells, "your breaking the ten commandments" Joshua yells back and starts crying hysterically because he didn't know and it's the first time he's broken a bible rule and God will know his heart but he doesn't want us to know that he has done anything wrong. It took this child a good 15 minutes to get it under control to figure out what in the world was going on. It was instant chaos, fire and brimstone...all because of Rogers and Hammerstein! I'm giving up on musicals...just not worth the drama!!! We got out the ten commandments and explained what bowing before idols meant and what kind of bowing Joshua was doing was more of the Hello, nice to meet you but we don't bow to others to worship them. Who knew I was going to need to have a theology lesson tonight. Anyways, alls well but the movie is done."

I could just see the chaos. They do take life way too seriously.
