I was hoping that Obama was going to bring "change" to how Washington works. I guess I was living in a fantasyland. I heard him just last week speaking about the people who were complaining about the earmarks in the stimulus pkg. He said (not exact words)... that these people didn't understand how politics work in Washington. Now I thought he was going to "change" the way politics worked in Washington. Like I said.... fantasyland!!!!!


Republicans Shut Out in New Era of "Bipartisanship"

Speaking as someone who remembers watching mistreatment of Republicans on various Senate committees via C-SPAN back in the early 90's, I can comfortably say that this does not surprise me in the least. Whenever Democrats have held the reigns of power in Congress, the GOP has consistently been shut out from exercising any power in that body; yet time and time again, when we Republicans get the majority, we are deluded into trying to "reach out" across the aisle, forcing us to compromise our beliefs—despite the fact that Republicans are never treated any better by the press as a result.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present the New Unitary Bipartisanship, courtesy Human Events (with thanks to Tim Boyer):—


Republicans have caught the Democrats in a midnight “stimulus” power play that seeks to cut Republican conferees out of the House-Senate negotiations to resolve a final version of the Obama “stimulus” package. Staff members from the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) met last night to put together the “stimulus” conference report.

They intend to attempt to shove this $1.3 trillion spending bill through in the dead of the night without Republican input so floor action can take place in both chambers on Thursday.

I spoke with House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) moments ago about this latest version of Democratic “bipartisanship.” Pence told me, “I think the American people deserve to know that legislation that would comprise an amount equal to the entire discretionary budget of the United States of America is being crafted without a single House Republican in the room.”


Bipartisanship is, as always, a one-way street.
