June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month

I adopted your pet today...
The one you left at the pound; The one you had for ten years And no longer wanted around.
I
adopted your pet today... Did you know that he's lost weight?
Did you know he's scared and depressed
And seems to have lost all faith? I
adopted your pet today...
He had fleas and a little cold; Guess you don't care what shape he's in
— You abandoned him I am told. I
adopted your pet today... Were you having a baby or moving away? Did you suddenly develop allergies,
Or was there NO reason he couldn't stay? I
adopted your pet today... He doesn't play or even eat much;
I guess he's very sad inside and
It'll take time for him to trust. I
adopted your pet today... And here he is going to stay; He's found his FOREVER home
And a warm bed in which to lay. I
adopted your pet today...
And shall give him all that he will need — Patience, love, and security, So he can forget your selfish deed.

With the exception of one cat DD#2 bought at a pet store and one that was given to us as a gift, all our fur-babies were strays or came from the SPCA. I would love another kitty but poor old Peaches would be too stressed and I don't trust Angel to play nice.

What a coincidence, that shelter cat is out on my screened porch right now. (See my post The Visitor.) But it is still looking for a good home because it can't live up here in the mountains. It is an outside cat - refuses to come into the house but enjoys being held on my lap out on the porch. It couldn't live up here because the foxes or mountain lion or coyotes would eat it. Plus, it would have to fend for itself over the winters when we aren't here. I hope the lady who found it as a stray is able to place it in a good home without having to resort to a shelter.

It wasn't my cat. I wouldn't do that!! I saw a poor skinny cat run across the neighbor's yard last week. If I could have caught him, I probably would have a cat.
